Addis Ababa, October 9 The United Nations (UN) has commended the constructive role Ethiopia is playing in the peaceful settlement of conflicts in the Horn of Africa (HoA) region.

The country’s role in bringing about enduring peace, security and stability amid peace challenges in the region is indispensable, it said.

“Ethiopia is very active in mediating a number of conflicts in the Horn of Africa,” said Fidele Sarassoro, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in an exclusive interview he held with WIC.

He said the country has been playing positive and constructive role in ensuring peace and security in the region.

Ethiopia is contributing troops to maintain peace and security in other African countries and its diplomatic efforts in the areas of peace and security is recognized by the international community, the coordinator said.

The country has been contributing to the peace efforts in the region regardless of the challenges emanating from conflicts related to the scarcity of resources, ethnic and boarder disputes, he indicated.

The coordinator further called on the international community to put the issue of peace and security in the horn of Africa top in their agenda.
